How do I get a customer's card on file?
Send a customer a secure link to add a card, and see which customers still need one.
Open the customer and choose Request Card Info. The customer gets a secure link by email, text or both, and adds the card on a Lawnly page. Sending a request needs a verified business; Lawnly checks when you press Send, and if you are not verified yet it shows "You're almost ready to get paid" with Set up payments.
Send a request
- Open the customer and choose Request Card Info. To replace a card, Change Card opens the same request.
- In Send Card Info Request, leave Send Email ticked, and tick Send Text Message if you want a text too.
- Choose Send Requests.
To ask several customers at once, choose Edit above the customer list, tick the customers, and choose Request Card Info. You can also use Create in the sidebar and choose Card Request.
Lawnly then tells you how each request went out. If nothing could be delivered, it says why and the window stays open.
Texts and contact details
- Send Text Message is switched off when any selected customer has opted out or has not opted in. See Texting customers.
- A customer with no email or phone shows "needs email" or "needs phone" in the list, and cannot receive the request that way.
How long the link works
The link stays valid for 7 days. Sending another request while it is still valid sends the same link again.
See who has a card
The Billing column in the customer list shows "ready" or "needs card". On the customer's page, Billing Details shows the card on file (brand, last four digits and expiry), or "Needs card".
Using the card
With a card on file you can charge an invoice to it. The Charge cards automatically setting (Business tab, Invoicing & payments; Growth plan) charges a saved card when a job is completed; customers without a saved card get a payment link instead.
