How do I import my customer list from a spreadsheet?
Download Lawnly's Excel template, fill in your customers, upload it on the Upload tab, and confirm the preview.
Open the Upload tab on the dashboard, download the Excel template, enter one customer per row, then upload the file. You see a preview first, and nothing is imported until you confirm. You do not need to be verified to import.
Fill in the template
Choose Download Excel Template and enter customers on the Customers sheet, one per row, keeping the header row. The template marks three columns as required: Name, Email and Address (street, city, state and ZIP in one cell). The optional columns are Phone, Price, Property Type, Frequency, County and Notes.
- Notes are saved as the job's special instructions.
- Frequency (days between visits, or a word like weekly) makes that customer's job recurring.
You can upload your own spreadsheet instead: put the column names in row 1, and the preview lets you match any column Lawnly could not detect. Files can be .csv, .xls or .xlsx, up to 10MB each.
Upload and confirm
- Drag the file onto the Upload tab, or choose Choose Files.
- Check the preview.
- Choose Add N Addresses (N is the number of rows).
- Pick Create Jobs or Create Quotes. Jobs creates a customer and a job for each row. Quotes creates a quote for each row and needs a price, from the file or from Set Price for All Quotes.
- Optionally turn on Auto Schedule Imported Jobs: jobs get dates starting tomorrow, up to the Jobs per day you set.
- Choose Confirm & Import.
What to expect
- A customer who already exists is matched by email and reused, not duplicated.
- A job is skipped when that customer already has an open job at that address.
- Large files take time: files of 1000 or more rows can take 15 to 30 minutes. You can leave the screen, and Lawnly emails you when the import is complete.
- Imported customers are not opted in to text messages. See Texting customers.
