How do I record a check or cash payment?
Mark an invoice paid when the customer paid you directly, and remove the payment if a check bounces.
Open the invoice and choose Record a payment. Say how the customer paid, how much and on what day, then confirm. The invoice is marked paid, or partly paid if you enter less than the balance. Recording moves no money through Lawnly and there is no processing fee.
Record a payment
- Open Invoices and select the invoice.
- Choose Record a payment on the invoice's Payments card, or Record a payment… in the ⋯ menu.
- Under How did they pay? pick Check, Cash, Bank transfer or Other.
- Amount received starts at the full balance. Enter less for a part payment. You cannot enter more than the balance.
- Date received starts at today and cannot be in the future. For an invoice sent more than 30 days ago, Lawnly asks you to pick the date.
- Optional: the Check number (or reference) and a Note for your team.
- Leave Email the customer a receipt on if you want them to get one.
- Choose the button, which names the payment, for example Record $85.00 cash.
Lawnly confirms it, for example "Recorded $85.00 received October 6, 2026 — invoice paid". You can record a payment before your business is verified.
What it does
The invoice is marked collected, and reminders and card retries stop. These payments are listed on My Payouts under Collected directly, separate from Lawnly deposits. If you record only part of the balance, the invoice shows Partly paid with the amount left, for example "Partly paid — $55.00 left", and the rest stays due.
Remove a payment
If a check bounces or you recorded the wrong amount, open the invoice and choose Remove next to the payment. Pick why: Entered by mistake, Check bounced or Other, add a note if you like, and choose Remove payment. The invoice reopens for that amount, and reminders resume (card retries do not). The removal stays in the invoice history.
Nothing is refunded, because no money went through Lawnly. Only payments you recorded can be removed this way. A card payment is refunded instead.
