How do I remind a customer about an unpaid or overdue invoice?

Send a reminder yourself and find the invoices that are late.

Open the invoice and choose Send reminder. Lawnly sends it by email and, if the customer has agreed to texts, by text too. Only owners, admins and managers can send reminders.

Send a reminder

  1. Open Invoices and select the invoice.
  2. Choose Send reminder.

A reminder can go out while the invoice is sent, viewed, overdue, partly paid or has a declined card. It cannot go out on a draft, a paid invoice or a cancelled one. Sending a reminder does not change the invoice.

Lawnly then says where it went, and where it did not and why, for example "Reminder emailed to … Not texted: the customer hasn't opted in to texts." Each reminder is recorded in the invoice's history.

Find what is late

At the top of the Invoices list you see the total outstanding and how many invoices it is across, for example "$220.00 outstanding across 3 invoices". When some are past their due date, a button shows how many are overdue and their total. Use the Needs attention, Unpaid, Drafts and All tabs to narrow the list.

On an open invoice, the top card shows the amount due and when it is due, and a note such as "Not opened yet" if the customer has not opened it.

If a reminder cannot be sent

A customer with no email address, and no mobile number with text consent, cannot be reached. Add their email on their customer record, then send the reminder again.
