How do I add sales tax to an invoice?
Type the sales tax rate on an invoice, and how it combines with a discount.
In the invoice form, find Sales tax in the Totals card and type the rate as a percent. The tax amount and the total update as you type.
Type the rate
- In the invoice form, find Sales tax in the Totals.
- Type the rate in the box, for example 8.25.
The row is then marked Manual and reads "Rate entered for this invoice". The rate applies to the services after any discount. For example, $60.00 of services with 10% off is $54.00, and 8.25% tax on that is $4.46, so the customer pays $58.46.
Automatic tax
The row shows Auto-tax off with "enter the rate here or turn it on in settings", and there is a Calculate tax automatically setting under Invoicing & payments on the Business tab. Automatic tax is not available on Lawnly accounts yet: even with that setting on, invoices still show Auto-tax off. Type the rate on each invoice.
Discounts and tax
A discount, in dollars or percent, is "Taken off the subtotal before tax".
Where tax shows
Tax appears as its own Sales tax line, with the rate, in the invoice totals, the charge window and the customer's invoice, so everyone can see what was charged.
